The 2016 Presidential Election seems to be a turning point in American history, and our politics, no matter what ideology, or philosophy you have. I hope that you will keep using the democratic and historical tools that we have tried to learn and use to understand the world around you. Use the tradition of loyal opposition, close reading primary sources, ideas from the wayback time machine, and our social contract. These are skills for you to keep processing for the rest of your life. You are to know your rights, and the rights of others that you come into contact with, and have positive human interactions with all of them. That is my hope. I tell all my classes if you need help or advice in the future just let me know.
For 22 years I have felt helping students as one of the most important things we can do in our American democratic society. I still remember the teachers who helped me through life, my own father and mother were probably the best. I just learned a few years ago, one of my first students from 1993 is now a Medical Doctor from UCLA, and enjoying his family and life. I have students who became lawyers, and teachers, and contractors, NSA workers, MIT engineers, social workers, and nurses, and a myriad of other jobs that help all kinds of people.
I hope whatever you do through your future education you might help: yourself, other people, and your family. If you can do all three at the same time that is truly a great accomplishment. Thank your parents and your siblings too, for this school year. This is last blog entry for our 2015-2016 school year in Matador land, room 27, and Mr.C's house [yours too]. Take care. Be a steward of your school and community. [stew·ard] May you and yours, find peace, love, and happiness.
